NEM Malaysia launches Asia’s largest Blockchain centre

The NEM Blockchain has been spreading its tentacles far and wide. The Blockchain company posts a tweet almost everyday about launching new NEM centres in different countries. The tweets ask people to join NEM communities in their countries. And each of these centres has been working towards making the NEM Blockchain the best in the market.

Recently, NEM expert Lon Wong was appointed as one of the Huobi Chain’s first public chain consultants. Yesterday, NEM launched a Blockchain centre in Malaysia, which is the largest of its kind in Asia.

NEM Malaysia’s Blockchain centre will act as a learning centre, incubator and accelerator for companies looking to incorporate the technology. Stephen Chia, NEM’s country lead for Malaysia, said that there was a lack of knowledge on Blockchain. Speaking to The Malaysian Reserve about the launch he said, the lack of understanding was not only an issue in Malaysia, but was a global issue.

“There is not enough understanding and (not enough) people who know how to use the technology to build up solutions for companies to solve some of the world’s problems.”

He further added that the younger generation should learn about the field. But the curriculum in schools or universities does not include information on the topic to help them learn about it. He says, “I think the mindset still remains the biggest challenge. For example, people may think it is complicated because of the buzzwords or more specific terms that are used. Today, more and more corporate companies are beginning to venture into this technology, simply because they have clients who request for it.”

Chia is passionate about educating the younger generation and training them in Blockchain technology. According to him, the company has allocated around RM 500,000 which will be used for educating university students on the technology. Moreover, they also plan on conducting an entrepreneurial incubation programme. This programme is aimed at organizations which are interested in adopting Blockchain Technology in their businesses.

Chia, a Blockchain enthusiast advocates its use stating that transparency, scalability and resilience are its main benefits. He further added that he is interested in engaging with the newly formed government, if they so wish. He added that together they’ll explore how the technology can help in increasing transparency and resilience in governing systems. He said, “The technology can be used for a lot of applications in government systems and how every transactions take place. We would be extremely pleased to invite them over to visit us or have a dialogue with us.”

The new Blockchain centre will conduct several training sessions for companies or individuals who wish to learn about the technology. According to Chia, they want the company to be the region’s outreach centre and also a support centre for NEM.

He says, “We invested more than RM2 million into this centre. We have 12 incubator offices right now and almost all of them are already filled. We have seen good progress with the sessions and training as well.”

He adds that the technology is no more relevant to just one industry. He says everyone will need to incorporate it into their businesses sooner or later.

“We have seen companies eager to learn, while the others are building up their own blockchain applications. The co-working space we have here will be able to benefit everyone.”
